since i still have more than a hundred (literally one hundred that is) volumes stacked up on my shelves waiting to be read, i am trying really hard not to buy anything or as few as possible. since i moved home the execution of the plan has gotten fairly easier, as there is no english second hand book store in miskolc - and that's the kind of thing that gets me started. so, instead of buying, i pay regular visits to the various libraries of the town, and usually return home with at least half a dozen books in bag. this is what i picked up this week.
- Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton - though an american classic, i haven't read anything by edith wharton. i own her mostly recognized novel the age of innocence, but when i bumped into ethan frome at the library, i thought why not start with this?
- Szerelemféltők by Ugron Zsolna & Meskó Zsolt - i liked ugron zsolna's first book úrilányok erdélyben fairly much. in fact, i liked it enough to read it twice. this is her second novel co-authored with meskó zsolt. i wonder what this one will be like, as the story unfolds by a series of letters that the protagonists send to each other.
- A Good Year by Peter Mayle - as a fan of peter mayle's provence books, i was glad to finally find his novel on the shelf of the library. i loved the move it was turned into, wonder what the original piece will be like. hopefully even better than the film.
- Édenek és börtönök by Colette - earlier this week i read this interesting interview with j.k. rowling on new york times's website. though i haven't read the harry potter series, i think rowling is a great writer. apart from suggesting some seriously great reads, in the interview she mentioned loving colette's novels. since i have never read anything by colette - in fact i hardly know anything about the writer herself - i thought i would check her out. btw, i would love to read rowling's new novel, the casual vacancy. and one of my favorite literary heroines is jo march too!
- A Szent Johanna Gimi by Leiner Laura - i have seen so many teenagers reading it, being obsessed with it lately that i have become curious. is it any good? is it fun? is it entertaining? or is it yet another craze caused by good marketing without real literary value? gotta know. and you know, young adult fiction. my soft spot. reasearch. guilty pleasure. whatevs.
