rush of productivity

do you ever get the sudden urge to create something? your fingertips start iching and you suddenly feel so creative that you just can't sit still because you gotta get something done, gotta do something crafty and creative. stitch, sew, knit, crochet, cut, glue, paint, draw, colour, bake, knead, dismantle, mix it up, then put it back, just to end up with something pretty and nourishing to your soul?
you can hardly contain yourself, running up and down from room to room, hastily opening then closing drawers, hunting down random items, like a pair of manicure scissors, some cellotape, a glue stick, or a paintbrush. and in the meantime you also create this wonderful mess around you. like the one i have managed to create on (and around) my desk in the past hour:

but i also managed to create something pretty and soul nourishing:

the first one is a ring:  the thesaurus entry of the word 'travel' inserted on a ring base and covered with a clear plastic lense. (i am not sure how this technique is called in english, it's üveglencse in hungarian.) yep, i shamelessly perished and defaced that thesaurus of mine that i never use anyway. (and should i also add that i ruined only one page and there are still many pages in the thesaurus?) i have been longing for such a ring for a long long time, but i wanted to create it myself and it took me some time to figure out how this technique is called, and where to find the right pieces. well, today i finally paid a visit to the local creative hobby store, and found exactly what i needed. i found the bases for rings and pedants, but i want to make some nice earrings too, so my next mission is to hunt those down. the second thing i made is this penguin pendant, because, as i have mentioned earlier, i worship penguin books. i'm gonna be honest here though, i'm not the one with the original idea, as i copied this very penguin pendant. the pumpkin/ jack-o-lantern and the leaf are wood cuts (also store bought) which i later painted orange, stuck a metal brooch base to their backs, and thus ended up with these cute autumn/ halloween brooches. neat, aren't they? by the way, ever since i first saw the movie julie & julia, i have had a thing for cute brooches, bottons, and badges.  i have already made at least a couple of dozen, and just can't get enough of them. because, really, how to light up a simple and casual outfit if not with a piece of cute and colorful accessory, eh?

  1. No doubt, you are very creative; however, it pains me to see that circular cutout. It’s too late now, but couldn’t you have printed those words on a slip of paper? That way, your thesaurus could have remained intact.

The resultant piece of jewelry looks nice. You are fairly skillful.

  2. @Árpi - I do know it looks like ruining a book, I believe it's just lumps of paper, the true message and the knowledge don't live on the paper but between the lines.

@circleofchaos, thanks, i like your blog, and started following. ;)

  3. I think printing a copy is never the same as the real thing. Btw I'm against ruining books too.
