in my mailbox (6)

alas, i haven't managed to make much progress with the books i am currently reading, as it's been a busy week workwise.
i still haven't finished the coco chanel biography; i haven't even opened it to be completely honest. neither have i made any progress with peter mayle's a good year. although i started j.k. rowling's new novel earlier this week, i just couldn't find the time to get lost between the lines, and i am still at page sixty. nevertheless, it's quite obvious already that this is an excellent book, in which rowling's great sense of humour clearly shines through the page. she's the master of witty remarks; and i often find myself laughing out loud when reading her novel.

as i've mentioned before, i have visited some friends in the city over the weekend, and i couldn't resist popping into my favorite second hand bookstore and checking out their current stock. i was thinking about purchasing either cloud athlas or a kate morton novel - both big bestsellers of 2012. in the end i bought how to be a woman by british journalist caitlin moran. according to the cover, the book is part memoir, part rant, and as the title suggests, it is about the howabouts of being a woman. supposedly it's packed with both feminism and witty british humor. with all that said, the bar is set quite high, and i am utterly curious to find out whether this is really as good as i am expecting it to be. by the way, prior to purchasing, i already had some vague ideas about moran; i knew (well, thought) she was some sorf of a feminist writer/stand up comedian. then a few days ago i was browsing the nominees of the goodreads choice awards (btw, do you know goodreads? have you voted yet?), and came across this very book in the humor category. then, as luck would have it, red bus had two copies of it upon my visit. i thought it was a good sign, so i thought why not buy it?

what have you been reading lately? have you come across any fascinating books? please share!

in my mailbox is a weekly meme originally hosted by the story siren, in which book bloggers post about the books they have bought, borrowed or received in the past week. since it began it has become fairly popular, and numerous book blogs post their weekly in my mailbox meme.
